Attempt at Light Painting

Last night I attempted to take some 'Light Painting'
photos from my new camera and this is what I got:

The photo above is my first attempt at it. I was shooting with a Nikon D3000 and used Manual Mode, opened the aperture fairly wide (this one was shot at f/5), set my camera to a long shutter speed(10 seconds), and used my cell phone light to scribble with. Obviously not that effective but the evidence is clear enough.

Next I use a flashlight in a darker space, but found that the light from the flashlight was exposing the surrounding area and myself so that is why you can see more in the picture. I attempted to write my name, you can kind of see the backwards B on the left side of the cluster.

Then I got bored and decided to see what would happen if I took a shot of Sheridan in the same settings as cars drove by. I ended up with this which I thought was pretty cool.
